From my experience as a consultant and solution provider, too many people still look at project management and project controls from a narrow point of view where planning and scheduling, critical path and milestones take a lot of space. Many project engineers do not allocate a lot of time and resources to actually tracking the progress against that schedule. So you have a nice looking schedule but you don't know how your team is currently performing that. Or you have a very hazy picture of best on how they are doing. So in my opinion, when we think of future of project controls, there is a lot of room for improvement for where project managers and engineers can set up effective project tracking systems which are going to benefit the overall controls in the end.I have written a post on how you can effectively track project progress - https://www.workpack.in/2017/08/30/tracking-construction-project-schedule/
