As a recruiter I would have to agree that this is true, however I would point out that this is always driven by the end-employer. My clients tend to want people with industry experience, especially if they are taking on a contractor who needs to be effective in the job from day one. I think the attitude is - "why take the time to get somone up to speed if there are other people available with experience from the same industry?" I once had an Oil&Gas client specifically tell me that someone from the rail industry would not be suitable for his job!
Employers are far more flexible when taking on permanent staff, and I would suggest this may be a way to help break into a new industry.

How do you find the market for planner/scheduler in Australia O&G market?
Is it demanding for someone like me?
I have 1 year of local and 3 years of overseas experience in manufacturing and EPC contractor with PMP certificate and professional in Primavera P6 & P6 V.7.
