Using Project Controls on Small to Medium sized Projects

I am looking for some feedback on experience using Project Controls on Small to Medium sized Projects. I am part of a committee in my company and we are doing a presentation on this subject. By small to Medium i mean $50K to $500K and/or 3 weeks to 4 months duration, less than 2,000 manhours. What level and type of Project Controls have you used and what is your recommendation/experience.
